WHY commission or purchase a work of Art ?

To capture or commemorate an abiding memory of place, event, person, emotion, or interest.

WHAT form might it take ?

An original water-colour painting, or possibly a print. Framed, with a mount, and placed where it can impact upon the viewer in a meaningful and friendly way. An original is like going to a theatre performance ‘live’, and a print rather like watching a video recording.

WHERE does one start ?

Viewing existing works can provide an inspiration for ideas of the form any work can take. This website gallery sets out to show something of what is possible.

All of the paintings shown in the Galleries are available in notelet and print form, and some originals are available for purchase. Jim is happy to make up sets of notelets to individual requirements. Please ask.

HOW does it work ?

By conversation with the Artist, the inspiration can be verbalised to the point of defining a project to create the physical work to encapsulate the subject in an appropriate image. Reference can be made to existing images, photographs, sketches, in order to express the ideas involved.

COST – How is that arrived at ?

The sponser naturally needs to indicate a budget, as is appropriate. Generally costs for commissioned works are in proportion to the finished size. For a 25cm x 35cm (10” x 14”) water colour painting a cost of around £100 is likely. At 30cm x 40cm (12” x 16”) approximately £150, dependent on the amount of subject research which may be needed.
Framing is additional.
